What the Royal Mail says about EXTERNAL RETURN ADDRESSING"From 4th October 2004, if you want your undeliverable franked mail to be returned to you, you must include an ERA. From then, we will be ending our return service for undelivered franked mail without an ERA, so those items will be disposed of.""By including an External Return Address (ERA) on your franked mail, we can quickly return all your undelivered items at no extra cost, so you will know you have only 'live' customers on your database. This saves you wasted postage and gives you better results from your mailings". What to do about Return Addressing:
- Decide whether or not you want to have your undelivered mail returned.
- Having decided that you do, there are a number of options:
- If you already have a Return Address printed on the back of your envelopes, then you need do nothing more.
- Print an External Return Address using the SLOGAN facility of your franking machine. The Royal Mail says that "you can put it (the return address) in the slogan block in your franking impression". Using your Slogan block, you have more options:
- Just print your return address
